Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau - Activities
The Hospital of Santa Creu i Sant Pau is a university hospital, with six centuries of existence, it constitutes the older hospitable institution of the Spanish State. Its activity is centered mainly in Barcelona and it extends by all Catalonia, besides to have a remarkable incidence and projection in all Spain.
Attendance, Investigation and Teaching are the three fundamental pillars of a sanitary center. In this sense, next to the welfare activity, the Hospital of Sant Pau pays a special attention to the educational aspects and to investigation.
The Psychiatry Department is directed by Dr. Enrique Alvarez. The area of attendance is more than 300 000 citizens. It has an emergency unit, 30 beds of psychiatric hospitalisation, 12 beds of addictive behavior patients, and an external consultation unit. Annually it is taken care of around 15000 patients at external consultation, 4500 at the outpatient treatment area, 5000 at psychiatric emergencies and 700 inpatient admission.
