A convincing reference
The community-based intervention program conducted in Nuremberg was clearly effective in reducing suicides and in improving the care of depressed patients. A careful evaluation both with respect to a 1-year-baseline and a control region showed a significant reduction of suicidal acts by about 20%.
Evaluation within EAAD
To evaluate the efficacy of the EAAD intervention programme and its methodology, a set of core evaluation indicators has been established (number of suicides; number of suicide attempts; public opinion; attitudes, knowledge and current practice; media coverage of suicides). Along with these evaluation indicators, standard evaluation procedures have been elaborated and approved instruments have been agreed.
