World Suicide Prevention Day 2017: Recap

Seminar by Prof. Ella Arensman on self-harm and suicide in young and middle-aged people

On Sunday, 10th September 2017, the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) hosted the 15th World Suicide Prevention Day. Every year, approximately 800,000 people die by suicide and the number of attempted suicides is more than 20 times higher (WHO, 2017). These statistics call for awareness and action, so the World Suicide Prevention Day reminds communities of their responsibility to take care of and offer support to those in need. This year’s motto was called ‘Take a minute, change a life’.

Within this context, Prof. Ella Arensman, vice president of the European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD), has given a seminar on self-harm and suicide in young people and those in the middle age group, associated risk factors and evidence-based interventions. Watch her video here
