The information of the broad public about depressive disorders and suicidal behaviour in order to reduce the stigmatisation of the disease and the affected people is targeted at by initiating large-scaled public awareness campaigns in EAAD partner regions.
Within EAAD a diversity of information material is currently being produced and distributed among regional co-operation partners and the general public. Posters and placards announcing the key messages of the campaign are placed at well frequented public places. Leaflets and information brochures are disseminated via pharmacies, schools, hospitals, churches and surgeries. A cinema spot is shown in cinema theatres.
In addition to the official EAAD-website, regional websites have already been set up or are currently under construction offering information about depression and local help offers. Public events (e.g. lectures, art exhibitions) are organised to call attention to the campaign’s theme. Additionally, all EAAD partners are in close contact with the local media including radio, television, newspapers and magazines. In this connexion, special guidelines on media coverage of suicidality are distributed to prevent imitative suicides.
