PROSPHERH

The PROSPERH Project “Promoting Positive Mental and Physical Health in Changing Work Environments” is an EU Horizon Europe project aimed at creating an innovative intervention to enable companies to improve mental and physical health among their workforces.

PROSPERH is the continuation of a long-standing collaboration between 18 organisations, including the European Alliance Against Depression.

All PROSPERH hands were on deck during the week of World Suicide Prevention Day, 10 September, with a range of activities to promote the aims of the project:

  • Dr Arlinda Cerga Pashoja, Associate Professor in Psychology at St Mary’s University, London, was invited by Euronews Albania in their afternoon TV programme, on 10 September for World Suicide Prevention Day, to talk about suicide in Albania. She highlighted the importance of responsible reporting as well as drew attention to the important interventions and research they are carrying out to prevent suicide and improve mental health in the country.

  • UCC's Dr Birgit Greiner framed a recent commentary in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine in the context of the PROSPERH Project. The open-access piece authored by Anthony D. LaMontagne, et al., titled, ‘Work-related suicide: Evolving understandings of etiology & intervention’[2] illustrates that workplace intervention strategies for suicide prevention can improve suicide-prevention literacy, helping behaviours and reduce stigma, and thus may reduce suicide rates.
  • PROSPERH's explainer video launched on 10 September. Coordinator Professor Ella Arensman, Head of University College Cork‘s School of Public Health, Research Professor School of Public Health and Chief Scientist, and the Irish National Suicide Research Foundation explained the project in a short video. • On 12 September, MC Mutual, the ‘portal for prevention and occupational health‘ interviewed Dr Bridget Hogg of the Hospital del Mar Research Institute. The interview featured results from MENTUPP and an introduction to the PROSPERH Project.
  • Danielle Nicholson, from Pintail Limited, posed questions to Dr Eve Griffin, Chief Executive Officer of the National Suicide Research Foundation in Ireland in the context of PROSPERH to mark the occasion. It’s World Suicide Prevention Day- please meet Dr Eve Griffin, CEO of the NSRF – PROSPERH
  • We issued an all-partner federated press release to help "Change the Narrative on Suicide." The message was shared, and in some instances translated, by partners for audiences in Ireland, Spain, Turkey, and Kosovo and many others.
  • On social media, we shared LIVE LIFE: “An implementation guide for suicide prevention in countries." Published in June 2021, the guide spells out the WHO’s approach to initiating a suicide prevention programme. In addition, we highlighted pivotal insights from the MENTUPP research article “Outcome assessment of a complex mental health intervention in the workplace. Results from the MENTUPP pilot study” to underscore the significance of fostering mental health in workplace environments to reduce anxiety, depression, and suicidal behaviour. MENTUPP outcomes form the foundation on which PROSPERH research is based. https://www.mentuppproject.eu/
